Umag is the first tourist destination in the Adriatic that boasts the public bicycle transport service. ParkandRide Umag system, modelled after similar services in European capitals, provides simple rental of bikes which can be used both by tourists and locals for moving around or visiting the sights of Umag.
The system offers 93 bikes for rental at 5 points all the way from the Katoro and Stella Maris Resorts, through Punta and the centre of Umag to CampingIN Park Umag. Both mechanical and electric bicycles are at disposal, all branded by the destination's distinctive feature – the four colour fan.
One of the missions of the Istraturist company is to create tourism experiences among which cycle tourism, in whose development significant resources have been invested in recent years. Thus, the introduction of the ParkandRide system is only a logical continuation of enriching the tourist offer, precisely the one that today is perhaps the most important one, because it raises environmental awareness and spreads the word about the importance of doing sports. The project was partially funded by the Programme for Promoting Innovation in Tourism Industry, and with it Umag confirmed yet again its ability to dictate the national trends of tourism development.
The advantage of the ParkandRide service is that it is user friendly. The whole bike rental operation is devised in only four steps, the first being the purchase of the code by registering at the Istria Experience info points (Katoro, Stella Maris, Punta, CampingIN Park Umag), trought the mobile application or by inserting a credit card directly to the terminal.
After that you enter the code on the pylon at the station, take the bike and return it at the end of the ride. Bicycles can be rented for 60 minutes, 24 hours, three days or a week, which determines the price, and the system is available to users every day from 6.00 to 24.00 hours.
