Sepomaia Viva sends Umag to antiquity

Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to live in ancient times? Thanks to Umag's Sepomaia Viva festival, you can. The festival, which runs from 30 July - 1 August, is an annual event in the Old City the whole family can enjoy.

The two-day festival is Umag's way of honouring and recognising the nearby archaeological site of the ancient Sepomaia. The site contains remnants of a villa dating back to the 1st and 4th Centuries. A visit to this historic location will invoke thoughts of what life was like in antiquity. And the city of Umag brings those thoughts to reality.

The Old City of Umag will transform into an early-century civilization come 1 August. The city's "inhabitants" will be dressed in traditional clothing, such as the customary robes and head wreaths, among other popular styles of the time. Scents of the delicious foods from the the past will fill the air, which you can sample in the Umag Town Museum restaurant. While at the museum be sure to visit the artifact exhibition, which will feature centuries-old relics and antiquities.

Stroll through the town market where pottery and mosaic producers will line the streets, eager to show you their unique and beautiful works of art. Souvenirs and influential literature from the period can also be found at the market.

While at the festival you and your family can also see the powerful gladiators battle, meet the brave legionnaires and watch dancers will perform traditional routines in the town square.

The Sepomaia Viva festival is an entertaining cultural event for the entire family. For a few hours, take a break from the present and go back to the ancient times to see what life was like thousands of years ago.
