  Umag hosts gastronomic event of the year - International Art of Gastronomy in Istria (IAGI)

  On March 1-4, the first international congress titled International Art of Gastronomy in Istria, of relevance for both Croatia and Istria, a meeting place of eminent experts and chefs from around the globe, with the main topics of autochthonous cuisine and gastronomic heritage in shaping national and international gastronomy and acquainting young cooks with the latest trends in world gastronomy, is going to take place in hotel Meliá Coral***** in Umag.
  Croatia will have an opportunity to present its gastronomic heritage in the framework of the Congress through the regional cuisines of Hrvatsko Zagorje and Istria, with the assistance of 26 renowned Croatian chefs.

  Days of Istrian Asparagus

  Asparagus lovers don't miss the Days of Istrian Asparagus!
  The scent of asparagus and the warmth of Istrian hospitality will pervade the restaurants of north-western Istria between March 23 and May 1.
  During March and April, the sixth Days of Istrian Asparagus will give true "asparagus lovers" an opportunity to relish in imaginative, delicious and fragrant delicacies made from Istrian wild asparagus, ranging from the renowned "fritaja" (omelettes), soups, homemade pastas and risottos to ingenious combinations with meat and fish and scrumptious desserts.

  11. Moto Meeting Ooooold Rockers

  Once again this year one of the biggest and most visited motorcycle meetups in the region offers to thrill all bikers and fans of fast two-wheeled machines a frenetic and loud opening of the season at the Stella Maris camp in the vicinity of Umag.

  IdejaX, National Advertising Festival

  This year Umag was chosen to host the second National Advertising Festival IdejaX, organized by the Croatian Association of Communication Agencies (HURA) and Interactive Marketing Association "IAB Hrvatska". Read more about IdejaX festival.

  15th International Organum histriae Festival

  Through the years-long efforts of its organizers, the International „Organum Histriae“ Festival revived valuable but „sleepy“ Istrian organs.
  The main goals of the project’s host have stayed the same: to restore the organs to the throne of the queen of instruments and re-interpret them in the present.

  Adria Music Conference

  The second edition of the Adria Music Conference dedicated to the music industry in the region will once again be held in Umag, but at a new location, in the only Croatian "Adults Only" hotel - the l Meliá Coral.
  Umag will once again become the meeting point of numerous performers, discographers, promoters, agents, DJs, producers, dance groups, media, music critics, as well as all music lovers desirous of new knowledge and wishing to make new acquaintances.

  Umagination

  Large regional music summer spectacle Umagination will take place in the ATP dance arena in the tourist resort of Stella Maris in the vicinity of Umag on June 2 (DJ Axwell (Axel Hedfors), Deniz Koyu, Martin Solveig).

  MIK - the Festival of Melodies of Istria and Kvarner

  This year, MIK's caravan tour will begin on June 23, making a stop in Umag on the fourth evening, i.e. on June 26. This is the ninth consecutive visit of the festival to the town which affirmed itself as one of the best hosts and the audience of which loyally anticipates and gladly visits this event every year.

  13th International Chamber Theatre Festival "Zlatni lav" – Umag

  At the late June and the beginning of July, the streets and squares in Umag become the stage to the numerous theatre fleets from Croatia, Slovenia, Italia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. In this period, the streets live their lives fully thanks to the Golden Lion, the international chamber theatre festival.
  This multicultural event that gathers numerous writers, directors, choreographers, set designers, composers and of course, actors, chose Umag, a city of a long theatre tradition, as its home town. Namely, in 1820, while Antonio Coslovich was building the Al Leon d'oro hotel, it was decided that he should also set the theatre next to the hotel, the first of its kind in the region.
  The Golden Lion, envisaged as the modern theatre review with a set theme, became the real tourist attraction and a bait for all theatre and culture aficionados. Read more about Zlatni Lav festival

  Festival of Istrian Malvasia, Brtonigla

  Brtonigla traditionally hosts the Festival of Istrian Malvasia, the queen of regional wines. It is a refreshing, elegant wine, containing a fruity note and, thanks to its low percentage of alcohol, is ideal for consuming with light meals.
  This popular festival in Brtonigla nurtures the traditional savouring of this top-quality wine, and it brings together local tastes, traditions and entertainment. During the festivities, a little tourist train will take you on a tour of the wine cellars of the town and its environs. Guests are welcomed by renowned vintners who throw open the doors to their underground treasures, while telling tales and anecdotes of the path of thorns that leads to the creation of top-quality wine.

  International festival of the antiquity SEPOMAIA VIVA – Old City, Umag

  Popular among the inhabitants and the guests, the historic festival Sepomaia viva invites some ancient times when Istria was ruled by the Romans. White wine was drunk with honey, and rose petals were added to the red one. The life flourished in the rustic villas around the present-day Umag, and the standard of beauty and cuisine were different than today. That was between the 1st and the 4th c. AD, in the times when a part of the north-western part of Istrian coast near Umag was known under the name of Sepomaia. Read more about Sepomaia Viva festival

  Astro party Lunasa, Novigrad

  We invite all those who love and enjoy magic and stories of ancient civilizations to come and visit Novigrad at the height of the summer season, when a unique astral party called Lunasa is held. This celebration is based on an old Celtic tradition that called August 1 by the name of Lunasa and celebrated it as the first day of summer.
  Festival evenings are full of entertainment and educational events. Visitors can, with the help of expert astronomers and authorities on the subject, observe the heavens and listen to interesting lectures. A fashion show, various other shows and performances are included in the programme, as well as exhibitions of jewellery, astrological knick-knacks and eco-products.

  11th Tomato Days, Umag

  The beginning of the main tomato harvest in Istria in early August also signifies the beginning of the Tomato Days in Umag. This gastronomic event is dedicated to favourite seasonal summer vegetable, it is unique in Croatia and it offers you a chance to taste the tomato in various combinations.
  At the main square in Umag, along the entertaining programmes, you can also taste the dishes based on this vegetable, the real source of health and vitality. It is mostly šalša, the popular tomato sauce, with various types of pasta, which is the constituent part of every Mediterranean summer menu.

  St Roch’s Feast, Brtonigla

  Brtonigla especially attracts its numerous domestic and foreign visitors in mid August, when a feast lasting several days is held to celebrate St Roch’s day, who is a patron saint of the town.
  What to do at St Roch’s Feast?
  For those coming for great food, Brtonigla offers typical Istrian dishes in taverns and agro tourist locations, as well at the street stalls. The greatest specialty is ox on the spit! The local farmers’ produce can be tasted within the folk’s fair where you can see and buy the traditional Istrian artefacts and souvenirs.

  Foto ex. tempore, Novigrad

  Novigrad and the Istrian motifs in the eye of the best photographers – that would be a short description of the Foto ex tempore event. This is a three day long gathering of photographers coming from throughout the world to Novigrad in September. And the goal is the same for everyone – to enjoy the Istrian motifs and to record them with a camera.
  About 80 photographers take part at this open competition, trying to win at the best photography selection at a set theme. In the past years, their objectives produced wonderful photographs with the topic of Venetian heritage in Istria, motifs highlighting Istrian myths and legends and the topic of the Istrian eno-gastronomy.

  Festival of Grapes, Buje

  Buje is a place of fertile fields and vineyards. It has a one-hundred year old tradition of celebrating and giving thanks for the produce of its land. In early times, the festival symbolically marked the start of the grape-harvesting season. Today, it is a prominent and well-known celebration with a variety of programmes, numerous games, tasting sessions, music and dance.
  Local farming traditions are manifested in hundreds of ways during the festivities, while at the same time thanks is given for the soil’s fertility. Gathering in a great allegorical procession, residents and their guests reminisce about work done in the fields, and the harvesting and processing of the grapes. They also announce the beginning of autumn activities that take place in the wine cellars.
